Additional Raising Sand Information
|
The musical collaboration of the decade, Raising Sand is the sound of two iconic figures stepping out of their respective comfort zones and letting their instincts lead them across a brave new sonic landscape. Despite hailing from distinctly different backgrounds, Alison Krauss and Robert Plant share a maverick spirit and willingness to extend the boundaries of their respective genres. This spirit, expertly honed by producer T Bone Burnett, has resulted in an album pitched three steps beyond some cosmic collision of early urban blues, spacious West Texas country, and the untapped potential of the folk-rock revolution.
Supported by the unparalleled musicianship of Marc Ribot, Dennis Crouch, Mike Seeger, Jay Bellerose, Norman Blake, Greg Leisz, Patrick Warren, and Riley Baugus, Plant and Krauss -- as both solo and harmony vocalists -- tackle an intriguing selection of songs from such tunesmiths as Tom Waits, Gene Clark, Sam Phillips, Townes Van Zandt, The Everly Broth! ers, and Mel Tillis. Raising Sand finds Robert Plant and Alison Krauss exploring popular music's elemental roots while still sounding effortlessly, breath-takingly contemporary.
The song "Killing the Blues" is featured in the new JC Penney American Living Campaign.

It may be good if you listen to it on a laptop computer with the tinny built in speakers, but not on any decent sound system or pair of headphones. I really like Alison Krauss and looked forward to listening to this album. The bass is so artificially and unnaturally boosted (or given way too much prominence in the mix) that all the booming and thumping sucks all the enjoyment out of almost every song. What were they thinking. Not recommended.
First off I am a fan of Robert Plant and Alison Krause. After reading some of the reviews on this album, I was excited to order it.when I received the CD, took it to my truck and took a drive.Jeez, this is the most melancholy and dark collection of songs I have ever encountered. The bass beat and drums sound like a big screen movie dirge for a funeral scene out of Star Wars. This CD starts off bad and goes to worse. Only a couple cuts towards the end liven up the beat just slightly. These two artists can do a lot better.Save your money. I listened one time came home and tossed this CD into the trash. Heck, I would not even give it away.
Great vibe/ background music. Allison Krause's voice is beautiful. Robert Plant is nice and mello.
Perfect harmony and balance. The kind of mellow music I can relax to and enjoy every word or fall asleep to and count on having pleasant dreams.
The CD came to me in perfect condition, as advertised. The CD itself is AMAZING. I've been playing it on repeat since I purchased it. I highly recommend that you buy a copy for not only yourself, but for everyone that you care about as well.
